1. Start from the room and the bowl
Give the largest outside length, width and height the room can take. Then describe the bowl: inside length, depth, rim width and the angle of the back you lie against. A photograph shows the look; these numbers decide whether the bath is comfortable.
2. Know the weight early
A solid stone bath usually weighs 300 to 1,000 kg (660 to 2,200 lb), depending on the stone, the wall thickness and the size. We estimate the weight from the stone in the quote and confirm the final weight before shipping. Your engineer or builder checks the floor for the bath full of water, with someone in it.
3. Fix the drain and the taps
Tell us the waste fitting, where the drain should sit and whether you need an overflow. Say whether the tap is on the wall, the deck or the floor, and check that the spout reaches past the rim into the bowl.
4. Walk the route in
Measure every door, corridor, stair, lift and corner between the truck and the bathroom. Decide who lifts the bath, where it is set down and how it is protected until it is installed. Sometimes a crane through a window is the only way.
5. Approve one drawing
The approved drawing records the sizes, the drain position, the visible faces and the finish. Waterproofing, plumbing connections and local code stay with your builder and plumber.
